Driving organic traffic: Building a brand blog from the ground up

To some, blogging may seem so 2002. However, keyword-rich blogging remains a powerful tool for driving traffic to a brand’s website.

As the content marketing manager at Buildertrend, my initial focus was on revitalizing our company blog. I implemented a strategy centered around consistent posting, prioritizing audience needs over direct sales pitches, and integrating relevant keywords to enhance discoverability on Google. Establishing an integrated content calendar ensured alignment with key marketing campaigns, while repurposing content across social media and email channels maximized our reach.

Some of the key areas behind our success include a strong SEO strategy, a process for regularly updating SEO, and focused efforts on backlinking and guest blogging. We also strategically outperform and outrank competitors by adding insights that only our brand can provide. Every blog includes a human source or original insights, ensuring that our content stands out in a crowded space. Additionally, we've optimized conversions by naturally incorporating CTAs that drive traffic to our highest-converting landing pages.

Over the past two years, we've seen remarkable growth: monthly visitors to the blog have surged by 500%, and our blog posts now account for four of the top ten pages driving organic traffic to the Buildertrend site. Behind the scenes, I've successfully scaled production by collaborating with a team of two dedicated staff writers, ensuring we consistently deliver high-quality, engaging content that resonates with our audience.
